As Holy Week arrives and Easter soon will, this is a time for us to stop and count our own blessings and give thanks. It doesn’t matter what religion you are, but certainly this season is very important to Catholics and other Christian faithful. While we should always practice to be thankful for the goodness in our lives, its during this season that we might want to be especially thankful.
Giving thanks in our lives
Even though we all have our own individual challenges and difficulties in life, we all have things to give thanks for. What are yours? Do you have a strong family around you? Do you have a good circle of friends? Were you able to get a good education? Do you have a good spouse or partner? Are you healthy? Do you have good children? Are they healthy? Its easy, sometimes, to get caught up in all of the troubles we face and actually forget all the good what we do have. Our lives have this way of really taking focus away from what matters.
- Why did we have that fight with our spouse?
- Why did we have to have our phone swiped on the jeepney?
- Why won’t the company let me renew my contract or become a regular employee?
- Why did my mom get sick?
Yes its true, we all have troubles. We have things that seem to stop or slow us from achieving our goals. Life is just full of those. But do yourself a favor. During the is Holy Week, take a few minutes and really think about all the things in your life that you truly have to be thankful about. Make a quick list, yes write it down. Later, when life is giving you those challenges, take out your little list and review it. It will give you the gratitude to get you through the tough days. It will remind you that while life is sometimes difficult, it can also be wonderful and full surprises and goodness.
