There seems to be a common belief among people today that our life is the way it is because that’s the way it is. Perhaps it’s the way God wants it to be. If that is true, there is no reason to have dreams and you can just sit back and let life happen to you. I want to tell you something – no one, and I mean no one, will come to you and make your dreams come true. You have to work for it yourself. Your dream spouse will not just walk into your house and ask you to marry them.
When someone says God wants me to be like this, I am reminded of this joke –
A lady was living in a area that was being flooded from a passing typhoon. She climbs to the roof of her house and gets on her knees and prays. She begs God to save her from this rising flood waters. At that moment, a boat with two local men in it passes and calls out to her. “Come now ma’am, the waters are rising” they say. She confidently tells them that there is no need because God will save her. They leave her to her fate. A second boat comes by later and again, the occupants implore her to join them. Again, the same response, no need, God will save her. Finally as the waters have risen nearly to her roof, an Army helicopter flies over and sees her. They lower a ladder and tell her to climb on. No need she says, God will save me. Shortly after, the water rises and the lady is drowned. When she arrives in heaven and comes before God, she begs to know why God didn’t save her. God responds with exasperation, “I sent two boats and a helicopter, what else did you want me to do?”
Sometimes we forget that we are in control of our own lives. Yes, God may have a plan for us but he also gives us free choice. Otherwise we would all be perfectly happy all the time and life would be easy. But the fact is that our lives are the results of OUR choices and we often make the wrong choice.
What does this have to do with money? Simple, you’re broke because of your choices. Its not God’s plan for you. Its not your parent’s plan for you. Its your plan. To be more accurate, its your lack of plan that makes you poor. Not achieving your dreams? You have yourself to blame. When are we all going to wake up and take responsibility for our own lives and our own dreams? Stop wasting your money on useless items, put it to work for you. Get out of debt and beginning building wealth. Start a side business and make some money. Stop trying to impress your friends and family with name brands.
No one will make your dreams come true, if you want it, you’ll have to go out and work for it.
